Did you know not all oils are created equal?

It’s easy to think that an oil is just… an oil. But in reality, they all behave differently. Some are thick and slow to absorb, others sink right in. Some have rich, earthy scents; others smell almost like nothing at all. And depending on how they’re extracted — cold-pressed, refined, or CO₂ extracted — the color, scent, and potency can change dramatically.

I remember this clearly from early on in my formulation journey. I had what felt like an endless row of oil samples lined up on my desk. I wanted to feel each one. Study the texture. Smell the scent. Learn how they layered. I wasn’t just curious — I wanted to understand how they worked together.

That’s how I fell in love with rosehip oil — especially the CO₂ extracted version, which is even more nutrient-rich and stable than traditional cold-pressed oils. It’s now a key ingredient in our reformulated facial oil, Luma.

What is Rosehip Oil?

Rosehip oil comes from the seeds of the wild rose bush (Rosa canina). It’s naturally rich in:

  • Vitamin A (a natural form of retinoic acid)

  • Vitamin C

  • Essential fatty acids (omega 3 and 6)

  • Antioxidants that help repair and brighten the skin

What makes rosehip oil especially unique is its ability to both nourish and renew — it hydrates deeply while also supporting skin regeneration and improving texture over time.

Why We Chose CO₂ Extracted Rosehip Oil

There are a few ways to extract oil from plant materials, but CO₂ extraction is one of the cleanest and most effective. It uses carbon dioxide under pressure to pull out the purest form of the oil — no heat, no chemical solvents, and no degradation of nutrients.

Compared to cold-pressed rosehip oil, the CO₂ version:

  • Has a longer shelf life

  • Maintains more of its naturally occurring nutrients

  • Is less prone to oxidation

  • Feels slightly lighter on the skin

  • Has a richer, deep amber color

This is the kind of detail that gets lost in mainstream beauty — but it makes all the difference in how a product performs on your skin.

What Rosehip Does in Luma

In our newly reformulated Luma Facial Oil, rosehip CO₂ works alongside prickly pear, sea buckthorn, and squalane to hydrate, support elasticity, and promote an even skin tone.

It’s one of those ingredients that does the work silently — no sting, no tingle, no gimmick. Just real nourishment and results.

Sometimes the magic is in the little things — like the weight of an oil on your fingertips, or the way your skin drinks it in. Rosehip CO₂ was one of those magic discoveries for me, and I can’t wait for you to experience it too.
